Eesti: Magevee karpvähiline (Heterocypris incongruens) pildistatud mikroskoobi all, kasutades 8x objektiivi.
English: A freshwater ostracod (Heterocypris incongruens) photographed under a microscope using an 8x objective lens. The specimen was collected from an urban pond in May 2024. The image prominently features the characteristic muscle scar pattern located on the inner surface of the carapace. This pattern consists of clusters of oval marks that represent the attachment points of muscles used to open and close the shell. This trait is species-specific and critical for accurate identification.
Additionally, the semi-transparent greenish-yellow carapace is visible, along with fine setae along the edge, which assist the ostracod in locomotion and anchoring in its environment. The image was captured using reflected light, which highlights the surface texture of the carapace and the muscle scar impressions. A focus stacking technique was employed, ensuring excellent depth of field and sharp detail throughout the entire subject. |
